Kyla Jenee Lacey is a writer and performer who has performed at a set of poetry, comedy, and storytelling at over 300 colleges in over 40 states.  Her work has received over 50 million views and has been featured by Buzzfeed, Write About Now, Occupy Democrats, Pop Sugar, All Def Poetry, the Joe Budden Podcast, and even Fox News ( for all the wrong reasons or right ones depending on whom you ask).

She is the cohost of a poetry webseries, “Speak Up.”  She has appeared on the Tamron Hall show, and the Spearsberg Podcast, hosted by Aries Spears.  She has written for, The Huffington Post, and the Root magazine.  She has also been written about and featured in articles by Harper’s Bazaar, Slate Magazine, the Atlantic,, the Boston Globe, the New York Times, the USA today, the Washington Post, Der Stern (Germany), and Les univers du livre Actualitte (France). Her work has been used in curriculum worldwide, including in Matthew Hawn’s classroom, a teacher who was subsequently fired for showing his mostly white students her work addressing racism.

Not only has her poetry gone viral, but so has some of her accent walls that she paints, as well as social media posts that showcase her irreverent and biting humor.  Kyla has a degree in history, and once was a polyglot. She is known for her ability to be just as keen about social issues as she is about the funny occurrences of simply being a human.  She is an avid animal lover, with a special penchant for cats.
